Thakurmar Jhuli (Bengali: ঠাকুরমার ঝুলি; Grandmother's Bag [of tales]) is a collection of Bengali folk tales and fairy tales. The author Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder collected some folktales of Bengali and published some of them under the name of "Thakurmar Jhuli" in 1907 (1314 of Bengali calendar).
The first Bangla novelists were Peary Chand Mitra (1814–1883) and Kali Prasanna Singha (1840–1870). [3] Under the pen name of 'Tekchand Thakur, Peary Chand Mitra wrote the first Bengali novel Alaler Gharer Dulal (1858).
A film Shesher Kabita, adaptation of the book, was released in 2013. It was directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay and starred Konkona Sen Sharma as Labannya and Rahul Bose as Amit Ray. [8] A full radio play of Shesher Kabita is available on YouTube. It was performed at the lawn of Sir. P.C. Mitter's heritage house on Elgin Road on 1 April 2012.
