Noel is a city in McDonald County, Missouri, United States, along the Elk River. The population was 2,124 as of the 2020 census , [ 3 ] up from 1,832 in 2010 . [ 3 ] The city is in the southwest corner of Missouri, just north of the Arkansas border.
The White River/Lake Taneycomo forms a bend on the east and southern side of the city. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 20.80 square miles (53.87 km 2 ), of which 20.63 square miles (53.43 km 2 ) is land and 0.17 square miles (0.44 km 2 ) is water.
A recent improvement to the area is the Big Sugar Creek State Park, in which about 80 percent of its more than 2,000 acres (8.1 km 2) have been designated as the Elk River Breaks Natural Area, and is protected as an undeveloped area. The stream turns south and flows parallel to Missouri Route 59 past Lanagan to its confluence with the Elk River about midway between Pineville and Noel.
