Bewitched is an American fantasy situation comedy originally broadcast for eight seasons on ABC from 1964 to 1972. 254 half-hour episodes were produced. The first 74 half-hour episodes were filmed in black-and-white for Seasons 1 and 2 (but are now also available in colorized versions on DVD); the remaining 180 half-hour episodes were filmed in color.
The producers were undecided about what to do with the character of Gladys, so at first they had actress Mary Grace Canfield brought in to play Harriet Kravitz, Abner's sister, who was visiting him while his wife was visiting her mother. Soon after, Sandra Gould got the role of Mrs. Kravitz when actress-comedian Alice Ghostley turned down the role.
A "front porch" set, replicating the porch of the backlot house was created as well. From 1964 through 1966, the Kravitzes' house was the same as used for The Donna Reed Show. Beginning with season 3 color episodes in 1966, the Kravitz house sets were the same as what would (years later) be featured as The Partridge Family house.
How will the Bewitched reboot be different from the original? Whereas the original Bewitched was a half-hour comedy, the new one will be an hour-long reimagining with less sitcom beats and more drama.
