The Court of Appeal is the highest appellate court in Jamaica; it is superior to the Supreme Court. [1] [2] [4] The Court is composed of a President and six other Judges.The Chief Justice is also a judge ex officio of the Court of Appeal, but participates only when asked to do so by the President.

Firearms offences, including possession of unlicensed guns and ammunition, are tried before a dedicated Gun Court established in 1974. Kirk Brian Anderson (born 20 April 1967) is a Caribbean jurist. [1] A dual national of Jamaica and Belize, he has experience both before the bench and behind it, in Belize as Director of Public Prosecutions and in Jamaica as a justice of the Supreme Court, and in both countries as a lawyer in private practice.
