The modern light in 2011. A white pole was set up on the last section of the pier, beyond the lighthouse, taking over light provision from 19 May 1982. It had a glass drum lens in a buoy lantern, and after modernisation in 2010, it operates with six halogen lamps, on a mains electric supply and battery.
The former Passenger Waiting Room of Pier 1½ was converted into an architect's waterfront office, and the bulkheads of Piers 1½ and 5 were used as professional office space. While many of the piers were demolished, Piers 1 ½, 3 and 5 remain the most visible from the Ferry Building and Market Street, still the main thoroughfare of the city.

Johnston's Pier was closed and had its red lamps transferred to a new pier, Clifford Pier, named after Sir Hugh Clifford, which was opened 3 June 1933. Johnston's Pier's demolition worked started from 3 June 1933, [ 7 ] and after much difficulties, [ 8 ] it was completed by November 1935.

[1] The Embarcadero right-of-way begins at the intersection of Second and King Streets near Oracle Park, and travels north, passing under the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. The Embarcadero continues north past the Ferry Building at Market Street, Pier 39, and Fisherman's Wharf, before ending at Pier 45.
