Cranelift (formerly known as Cretonne) is an optimizing compiler backend that converts a target-independent intermediate representation into executable machine code. It is written in Rust. The project started in 2016 and is currently developed by Bytecode Alliance.
The Rust compiler, rustc, translates Rust code into low-level LLVM IR. LLVM is then invoked as a subcomponent to apply optimizations and translate the resulting IR into object code . A linker is then used to combine the objects into a single executable image or binary file.
Rust supports optional reference counting, but manual memory management is preferred. Scala normally manages the memory automatically in its JVM and JavaScript targets. However, the LLVM-based Scala Native compiler supports the use of pointers, as well as C-style heap allocation (e.g. malloc, realloc, free) and stack allocation (stackalloc). [22]
The Emscripten SDK can compile any LLVM-supported languages (such as C, C++ or Rust, among others) source code into a binary file which runs in the same sandbox as JavaScript code. [note 2] Emscripten provides bindings for several commonly used environment interfaces like WebGL. As of version 8, a standalone Clang can compile C and C++ to Wasm ...
Binary Ninja offers an API that can be accessed via Python, C++, or Rust. [7] The API is open-sourced under the MIT License . [ 8 ] It can interact with most of Binary Ninja's functionality, including the user interface, analysis tools, and intermediate languages (see below).
An automatic translator was developed to automatically convert the compiler codebase from C into Go. [63] [64] Since Go 1.5, the "compiler and runtime are now implemented in Go and assembler, without C". C2Rust [65] C: Rust: C2Rust takes C code as input and outputs unsafe Rust code, focusing on preserving compatibility with the original ...
CLI languages are computer programming languages that are used to produce libraries and programs that conform to the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) specifications. . With some notable exceptions, most CLI languages compile entirely to the Common Intermediate Language (CIL), an intermediate language that can be executed using the Common Language Runtime, implemented by .NET Framework ...
The Global Offset Table, or GOT, is a section of a computer program's (executables and shared libraries) memory used to enable computer program code compiled as an ELF file to run correctly, independent of the memory address where the program's code or data is loaded at runtime.
