Cloquet (/ k l oʊ ˈ k eɪ / ⓘ kloh-KAY) [6] is a city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States, at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 33. Part of the city lies within the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation and serves as one of the reservation's three administrative centers.
The Cloquet City Hall, also known as the Spafford Building, is located at Avenue B and Arch Street in Cloquet in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The red brick Colonial Revival building was built in 1920 and features quoins, keystones, and an entablature with a high parapet. Tall stone pilasters extend to the high cornice. [2]
On March 28, 2019, Carlton County transferred the deed for the museum building to the Carlton County Historical Society. Back in the 1980s, the city of Cloquet had sold the building to the county for $1. The County Board of Commissioners voted to transfer the deed to the Society for the same nominal amount. [6] [7]

In 1918, the Cloquet Fire (named for the nearby city of Cloquet) burned across Carlton and southern St. Louis counties, destroying dozens of communities in the Duluth area. The fire was the worst natural disaster in Minnesota history in terms of the number of lives lost in a single day.
