The NHS Electronic Prescription Service is part of the NHS National Programme for IT of the National Health Service in England. It enables the electronic transfer of medical prescriptions from doctors (or other prescribers) to pharmacies and other dispensers and electronic notification to the reimbursement agency, NHS Prescription Services .
The NHS App allows patients using the National Health Service in England to book appointments with their GP, order repeat prescriptions and access their GP record. EMIS is one of the suppliers approved by the GP Systems of Choice and so funded by the NHS. Through its Patient Access service, EMIS was the first clinical system providers to enable patients to book GP appointments online and order repeat prescriptions. [11] Patient Access also enables patients to access their own records online. [12]
They could go online to order prescriptions, communicate with their GP or even to print off their medical records to take to appointments with hospital consultants. As of 2019, 62% of trusts have plans to digitise all their patient records.
