In astronomy, a resonant trans-Neptunian object is a trans-Neptunian object (TNO) in mean-motion orbital resonance with Neptune. The orbital periods of the resonant objects are in a simple integer relations with the period of Neptune, e.g. 1:2, 2:3, etc. Resonant TNOs can be either part of the main Kuiper belt population, or the more distant scattered disc population.
A Laplace resonance is a three-body resonance with a 1:2:4 orbital period ratio (equivalent to a 4:2:1 ratio of orbits). The term arose because Pierre-Simon Laplace discovered that such a resonance governed the motions of Jupiter's moons Io , Europa , and Ganymede .
Using the upper limit of the cosmological constant, the vacuum energy of free space has been estimated to be 10 −9 joules (10 −2 ergs), or ~5 GeV per cubic meter. [3] However, in quantum electrodynamics , consistency with the principle of Lorentz covariance and with the magnitude of the Planck constant suggests a much larger value of 10 113 ...
The change in resonance intensity of a nucleus is a consequence of the nucleus being close in space to those directly affected by the RF perturbation. The NOE is particularly important in the assignment of NMR resonances, and the elucidation and confirmation of the structures or configurations of organic and biological molecules.
Thus, the lifetime of a particle is the direct inverse of the particle's resonance width. For example, the charged pion has the second-longest lifetime of any meson, at 2.6033 × 10 −8 s. [2] Therefore, its resonance width is very small, about 2.528 × 10 −8 eV or about 6.11 MHz. Pions are generally not considered as "resonances".
N 2 + 2 O 2 → 2 NO 2. For the general public, the most prominent sources of NO 2 are internal combustion engines, as combustion temperatures are high enough to thermally combine some of the nitrogen and oxygen in the air to form NO 2. [8] Nitrogen dioxide accounts for a small fraction (generally well under 0.1) of NOx auto emissions. [25]
The resonance condition is given by = , which is when the neutrino system experiences resonance and the mixing becomes maximal. For very small θ , {\displaystyle \ \theta \ ,} this condition becomes ℓ ν ≈ ℓ 0 , {\displaystyle \ \ell _{\nu }\approx \ell _{0}\ ,} that is, the eigenfrequency for a system of mixed neutrinos becomes ...
The following tables list molecules that have been detected in the interstellar medium or circumstellar matter, grouped by the number of component atoms.Neutral molecules and their molecular ions are listed in separate columns; if there is no entry in the molecule column, only the ionized form has been detected.
