Another Lower unit oil question.. 11-13-2021, 12:03 PM. For my '06 F150. I already have one quart of the "proper" Yamalube Marine gearcase lube SAE 90, 80W90. My local dealer doesn't have that but the HD gearcase lube HD SAE 80w-90 which is (per the label) for the V6's SHO's etc.. The LU amount calls for 32 oz however I've found I need about 34 ...

Lower Unit oil leak. 05-27-2021, 01:19 PM. 1994 2-cycle carbureated150 yamaha. Had small amount of water in lower unit and boat would kill after start up. Boat not used past three months. Plugs were very black, so Installed new upper and lower unit seals and Shift Shaft seals. Attached lower unit and prop.
05-26-2012, 06:42 PM. Ok well I finally got to the boat today and did my leak down test on the port lower unit. Service manual says 10 psi for 10 seconds, well I could barely get 5 psi pumping so fast my hands hurt. Dropped the lower unit, pulled the water pump off, used some soapy water and found my leak. (see bubbles below).
Apply clean oil to the threads and on both sides of the gasket. Tighten until seated then an additional 45 degrees to achieve proper torque or tighten to and they show some formula that I couldn’t fallow. 7 51 Nm (0.7 + 0.1 m-kgf,5.2 50.7 lb-ft).
F250 lower unit oil. 02-13-2017, 10:14 AM. I had to replace the counter rotating lower last spring. Changed the oil out after 20 hours for the break in then again at 50 hours and just did it this weekend at another 50 hours. The first 50 hour change noticed the first few ounces of oil it was dark brownish in color then the rest of it was green ...
If it stick's out, it will create drag and cavitation (which would likely damage or pit the lower unit behind the screw over time). I suspect there is not one available from Yamaha for the same reason. Even if custom made to be flush, the pocket for the hex bolt would tend to create cavitation at the edge of the hex pocket and cause wear on the ...
Lower Unit Leak (water) 09-29-2023, 10:42 AM. F300 (manufactured in Dec. 2021) with 275 hours. Yesterday, I changed the gear oil after 88 hours and observed a bit of water in the outgoing fluid. New YamaLube Gear Oil is in it now.
SOOOOOO easy to drain oil! I see they now have some newer styles that drain faster - that was my only complaint... that it was a bit slow to drain.
