Use a 7- to 7 1/2-foot rod, depending on your preference and the type of structure you are fishing. Most prefer a rod approximately 7 feet long, give or take a few inches when fishing 20 to 60 feet deep, and a 7 1/2 footer when fishing 5 to 20 feet deep. Graphite rods are lighter, more sensitive, and faster and the way to go for these baits.
If the most expensive rod in any way dampens line movement you miss detecting the pressure strike. I use custom ALX NG+ (s/n 201202, 203 & 204) 5 and 6 power, 6'10" jig and worm rods with micro guides that weigh 3.8 oz the past 5 years. Most bass anglers wouldn't like using 5 & 6 power jig rods because they are too stiff.
The rod sports a faster tip than his casting rod. “A lot of these bites I can see, so I can give them a half-second [to inhale the swim jig before setting the hook],” he said. Kennedy keeps things simple, employing one rod for his swim jig fishing. “My favorite setup is a 7-and-a-half-foot extra-heavy rod,” he said.
1) 7’ M Cabelas mag touch (no longer made) casting rod. 2) 6’6” MH Shimano compre spinning rod. 3) 7’ okuma celilo UL rod. I did see a fish eagle 2 two-piece casting at BPS for about $80 they I’m eyeing for now. Adding an MH would pretty much round me out 2-piece wise.
It is called the Sierra series and they are just a touch less sensitive than a Champion ( a rod costing $75 more) but cost the same as a Savvy did. It is also a touch slower blank than the old Savvy blank as well. Unless you fished with both you may never know it. A new Sierra runs between $160 and $180.
Therefore, the ideal lipless crankbait rod should be long to maximize cast distance and powerful enough to bury hooks at a distance and get a big fish turned toward the boat. Look for a casting rod in the 7'2" to 7'6" inch range, with a medium-heavy or heavy power with a fast tip.

I never drop shot and rarely t-rig in open or deep water. So for me I like a spinning setup because I can skip a spinning rod/reel WAY WAY better than a baitcaster. I personally use a Megabass Orochi X4 F3-610X4S Aarons Martin Limited - FINESSEE rod; Med-light/Medium Power, Med/Fast Action paired with a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 2500FA 6.0:1.
I have long wanted to pull the trigger on a top tier Senko SPINNING rod, as Senko fishing is my go-to primary method of choice. I currently own several Shimano Expride and NRX casting models. I am conflicted between either the Shimano Poison Adrena 6'11" medium Heavy spinning or the NRX 6'8" medium Heavy 803s as likely being the best Senko ...
Posted August 25, 2012. You will want a fast or extra fast action rod. Moderate action rods are primarily used for reaction baits only. Setting hooks with soft plastics is much more easier to do with this type of rod. Ideally I would prefer a 7 foot or better rod in MH with a fast or extra fast tip. The above factors will help a little with ...
