The former Newtown and Machynlleth line continues in use, and carries the passenger service between Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli. The line is single-track, with stations at at Caersws and Machynlleth, with passing loops at Talerddig and Machynlleth. All other stations were closed during rationalization of the line in the 1960s.
