Michele Yvette "Missy" Avila (February 8, 1968 – October 1, 1985) was an American teenager who was murdered by her rivals and former best friends, Karen Severson and Laura Doyle, in October 1985. Background
In July 1988, Doyle and Severson were arrested in connection to Missy’s murder, and were each later convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 15 years to life.
On the pretense of reconciling with their old friend, Missy Avila, Karen Severson and Laura Doyle lured Avila into the woods, beat her, cut her hair, and drowned her in a lake. Sentenced to fifteen years to life in prison, both Severson and Doyle were free on parole as of December 2012.
