I would consider unity hub as basically part of unity at this point, not sure why they even make it separate. I don't see why you wouldn't want to use it. Its just a launcher for your projects, plus it allows you to update unity and get multiple versions without needing to do it manually. That said, there is an option to download it without hub.
I just installed unity hub but I'm unable to create a new project, whatever location I chose it always says the same thing: unable to create project. I've already tried to reinstall unity, launch it with administrator, set the location folder to document, C drive. nothing works

I was closing unity hub and it gave option to update. I know not to change unity versions mid project but thought because it was the hub it would probably just be UI and features for the hub. I knew i should not have as soon as i clicked update and restart, When it updated all my versions of the unity editor was gone as well as my project.
