[ 2 ] It was announced on July 22, 2008 alongside the Sony Ericsson S510, Sony Ericsson W302 and Sony Ericsson W902, with the W302 being the low-end, the W595 the mid-range and the W902 the high-end.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Sony created many versions and variations in the cassette tape Walkman line [4] such as the DD series and WM series. The W580i has a special feature, Shake Control, which also makes use of motion sensing. The W580i is the predecessor to the Sony Ericsson W595, and related, non-Walkman equivalent is Sony Ericsson S500.

The "DD" stood for 'disc drive', with the unit's main motor being directly coupled to the 'disc' of the capstan flywheel assembly while lying perpendicular to it within the unit.
