Gilmer County is a county located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,353. [ 1 ] The county seat is Ellijay. [ 2 ] named for a historic Cherokee town also spelled as Elejoy in the eighteenth century.
