The site of the 1881 dam, Two-Mile Dam, upstream of Santa Fe, is now part of the 190-acre (0.77 km 2) Santa Fe Canyon Preserve, [2] a trailhead for the 20-mile (32 km) Dale Ball Foothill Trail System. From Whittier Narrows, the path follows the River north into South El Monte, Baldwin Park and Irwindale to the Santa Fe Dam. The path crosses the river on Arrow Highway next to the main spillway, then loops back to climb a steep ramp up to the rim of the dam.
