Addington Raceway has also hosted the New Zealand Long Track Grand Prix for Motorcycle speedway.It first hosted the GP in 1991 and was won by Kiwi rider Mitch Shirra.It held the event again in 1992 when it was won by German Long Track specialist Gerd Riss (the 1991 Long Track World Champion, Riss would go on to win another 7 Long Track World titles in his career).

With the New Zealand Trotting Cup run on the Tuesday of that week, the Free For All attracts most of the same horses as the Cup, and is often won in the same year by the same horse.
The Dominion is a race held at the Addington Raceway each year in Christchurch, New Zealand for standardbred horses. The race is run in November over a distance of 3200 m on the Friday of New Zealand Cup week. It is on the same day as the New Zealand Free For All.
It is a race for stayers, over 3200 metres, which is also the distance of the Auckland Cup, Wellington Cup as well as some major Australian races such as the Melbourne Cup. Despite it dropping over time from a Group 1 race down to Group 3 status, it remains one of the most popular racing events in New Zealand with the 150th running in 2013.
This race meeting, along with other premier race meetings form part of Canterbury's carnival week along with the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Show. The first trotting race on a racecourse in Canterbury, in 1875, before the totalisator was introduced, the stake was only about a "tenner" (£10), but the match created a lot of interest. About 1880, Lower Heathcote Racing Club was founded, supporting gallops, but added trotting events to its programme, giving smaller stakes.
