The work is in the form of a Singspiel , a popular form during the time it was written that included both singing and spoken dialogue.
The Magic Flute, which was released by Shout! Studios this month, had its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) in Switzerland last year, and marked Sigl’s feature debut.
The film was a box office success but was met with negative reviews from critics and fans. It garnered a Saturn Award for Best Special Effects, a BMI Film Music Award, and the Audience Award for Best Director at the European Film Awards while also receiving a Razzie Award for Worst Remake or Sequel. It has only a 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. [16]
