One other option might be to draw a rough path between the two placemarks and save it as a kml file (not kmz which is a zipped format). A kml file can be edited with a text editor such as Notepad++, so you could edit it to put in the exact coordinates copied from the placemarks, and the re-open it in Google Earth.
