i hooked the engine up to a reader and found the icp output voltage was around 5v at idle when it should have been around 1v. also noticed at times under a wot run the icp output voltage would jump back and forth wildly from around 1.9v to 5.07v, i would think under wot the icp voltage should stay somewhat steady around 5v.
I am replacing the ICP and pigtail on a 2001 7.3. The replacement pigtail that I received has three green wires that look exactly the same. The factory pigtail obviously has different color wires. How do I know which wire to match to which? I dont know how they expect me to determine which of the three green wires goes to the white/red wire, etc.
The icp sensor still needs replacing but it's wire connector is fine. 99.5 f250 7.3 4x4 295k FF 160/30, PHP Hydra, S&B, 4" Exhaust, Van Turbo w/Riffraff Billet Wheel, Autometer Gauges, Built trans, 08 Tow Mirrors, Trucool Max.
-The ICP sensor can leak oil, if this happens replace both the sensor and the ICP pigtail connector-ICP sensor should read .16 - .28 volts (less than 70 psi) KOEO at normal operating temperature after the engine has been off for at least 2 minutes.-2004 ¼ and up should be updated to the latest oil standpipe design.
I made a ICP test fitting ICP is Metric 12 1.50 bolt tread here is the rundown:-rifle a 12 1.50 metric bolt and cut the head off -tap a brass 1/4 - 1/2 NPT bushing to the 12 1.50 m-screw the rifled headless 12 1.50 bolt into the bushing and solder it -add 1/2 npt to hose barb adapter -put oring on bolt For commanding the IPR shut
My ICP voltage can read anywhere from 0.0 to 2.95 and my ICP PSI remains right around 1520 to 1550. The 0 reading is when I have unplugged the ICP Sensor. Injector test runs fine, I can hear all the injectors buzzing as expected. The truck comes closer to starting with the ICP unplugged than it does when it is connected.
Sooooo, another thing that the PCM does, as kind of a limp mode, is to say "the ICP readings don't make any sense and can't be trusted". And at that point, substitutes a fixed value of @2100psi to apply to that table so the engine will still run (same that as happens when you unplug the ICP). When it does this it sets a 1211 code at the same time.
My truck's ICP sensor had been replaced by River City Diesel by the previous owner and I've been having some odd running issues that seem to have started when I put my 190cc/75% injectors in. I just bought Looney Wild for my truck a couple weeks ago and by the end of the week it had P2287 code saved and the truck felt like it had a lope tune on it.
