As mentioned by Cin316. this is not possible as nothing about the MC version is saved in the file. However an alternative moving forward is to put the version in your save name. so "My world 1.7.2" by doing this you will be creating your own metadata as it were so you can keep track of your saves.
However you can just leave "Use Latest Version" selected if you always want to use the latest release and not worry about version numbers. The launcher will also give you, again assuming an internet connection, "Minecraft News" updates on the "Update Notes" tab. Minecraft forge only works with the java version of minecraft, not the windows 10 version of minecraft. Unfortunately, if you want to use mods, you'll have to get the java edition. Here's a link that explains all the different versions. Again, only the top one (Java Edition) will work with minecraft forge mods.
