Pacelli students entering grade 9 must earn a minimum of 24 Carnegie credits. Students must take one core course each year in English, math, science, social studies, and religion. All students are also required to earn one credit in fine arts, as well as 1/2 credits in both health and physical education. [2]
Enrollment was initially 108 students, but by 1936 it was 202 students and a larger school building was planned. On October 31, 1936, Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, Secretary of State to Pope Pius XI, blessed the cornerstone for the new school. To honor the visit of the Cardinal, the new building was named The Cardinal Pacelli School.

The papal conclave held on 1 and 2 March 1939 saw Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli elected on the third ballot to succeed Pius XI, who had died on 10 February, as pope. All 62 cardinals took part. Pacelli, who had been camerlengo and secretary of state, took the name Pius XII. The day was his 63rd birthday.
