Niles West High School (NWHS), officially Niles Township High School West, is a public four-year high school located in Skokie, Illinois, a north suburb of Chicago, in the United States. NWHS is part of the Niles Township Community High School District 219 , which also includes Niles North High School .
In later life Basrak served as football coach at Niles East High School (1954–62) and then Niles West High School (1963–73), both in Skokie, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago. Basrak died at home in Skokie on December 18, 1973, aged 61. [2] After his death, the Niles West football field was named Mike Basrak Field in his honor.
Mendenhall attended Niles West High School and Lincoln Jr. High School in Skokie, Illinois. As a five-star prospect, he was also rated the best recruit in the state of Illinois by Scout.com. [2] He recorded 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns as a sophomore. As a junior, he rushed for 1,832 yards and 19 touchdowns, while averaging 11.6 yards per carry.

Operated by Niles Township High Schools District 219, Niles East was first opened in 1938 and closed after the 1979–1980 school year. Niles East's sister schools Niles West High School and Niles North High School remain open.
He gained 3,600 all-purpose yards as a high school football player at Niles West. [4] Walter also played basketball at Niles West, [5] and was recruited by several schools to play college basketball. [1] As a sprinter, he also helped lead the Niles West track team to its first outdoor team title at the 2003 Argo Invitational. [6]
