Winnetka (/ w ɪ ˈ n ɛ t k ə /) is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 16 miles (26 km) north of downtown Chicago. The population was 12,475 [ 2 ] as of the 2020 census . The village is one of the wealthiest places in the United States in terms of household income.
The area in between, the Middle Sugar River Watershed, is managed by Lake Winnetka Sugar River Improvement Association and the Green County River Rats from Attica through Albany. The Decatur Lake and Mill Race Association manages Decatur Lake and waters that run through Brodhead from the head waters of the lake to the old power plant spillway.
Skokie Lagoons is a nature preserve in Glencoe and Winnetka, Illinois, owned and managed by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. [2] The park is bordered by Dundee Road to the north, Forestway Drive to the east, Willow Road to the south, and the Edens Expressway to the west.
