Getty-Dubay Italic is a modern teaching script for handwriting based on Latin script, developed in 1976 in Portland, Oregon, by Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay [1] with the aim of allowing learners to make an easier transition from print writing to cursive.
BFH is an italic script, similar to the Getty-Dubay Italic, where the letterforms of the print writing version taught to initial learners are very similar to the semi-connected cursive forms taught to intermediate learners. BFH is written with a slant of 80 degrees, measured counterclockwise from the baseline.

Italic script, also known as chancery cursive and Italic hand, is a semi-cursive, slightly sloped style of handwriting and calligraphy that was developed during the Renaissance in Italy. It is one of the most popular styles used in contemporary Western calligraphy.
D'Nealian cursive writing. The D'Nealian Method (sometimes misspelled Denealian) is a style of writing and teaching handwriting script based on Latin script which was developed between 1965 and 1978 by Donald N. Thurber (1927–2020) in Michigan, United States.
Cursive italic penmanship—derived from chancery cursive—uses non-looped joins, and not all letters are joined. The Italian scribe Ludovico Vicentino degli Arrighi's 1522 influential pamphlet on handwriting called La Operina was the first book on writing the italic script known as cursive chancery hand. [6] He was a scribe in the Papal Curia , which had refined cursive chancery hand in its infancy during the latter half of the 15th century. [ 4 ]
This was a combination of Roman capitals and the rounded version of Carolingian minuscule. A cursive form eventually developed, and it became increasingly slanted due to the quickness with which it could be written. This manuscript handwriting, called cursive humanistic, became known as the typeface Italic used throughout Europe. [18]
