Bonifacio Global City (also known as BGC, Global City, or The Fort) is a 240-hectare mixed-use estate and central business district located in Taguig, Philippines. The district experienced commercial growth following the sale of a 440 ha (1,100 acres) military base at Fort Bonifacio by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
Barangay Fort Bonifacio was created as a barangay of Taguig by virtue of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Ordinance No. 68 Series of 2008 out of Barangay Western Bicutan. [16] The western part of Barangay Ususan , which consists of the Bonifacio Global City and Manila American Cemetery , became part of the new barangay as well.
The district hosts most of the city's pre-BGC major educational institutions. Once a single large barangay upon its establishment, it is now made up of barangays Western Bicutan, Upper Bicutan, Central Bicutan, Lower Bicutan, New Lower Bicutan, and North Daang Hari.
The barangay claims an area of 3.412 square kilometers (1.317 sq mi), once the largest barangay of Makati in terms of land area. [1] Now under the jurisdiction of Taguig, it overlaps territories already under the jurisdiction of barangays Fort Bonifacio, Pinagsama, Western Bicutan, and Ususan.
The cities claimed jurisdiction over the entirety of the Fort Bonifacio military reservation, which includes the financial district of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and Enlisted Men’s Barrios (Embo) barangays. Taguig has administration over Bonifacio Global City and some territory to its south as part of its Fort Bonifacio barangay.
