Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University (VBSPU), formerly Purvanchal University, is a public state university based in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 1987 as a residential-cum-affiliating university. It is named after Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
The college was established in July 1957 as the first Degree College of Ghazipur. Initially it was affiliated with University of Gorakhpur but currently its affiliation is with VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur. [2] Currently it offers courses in four main streams: arts, science, agriculture, Commerce and education.
Allahabad State University was established through the Uttar Pradesh State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2013, which saw to establish a state university in Prayagraj since the University of Allahabad was given the status of central university, leaving the district with no state university.

Until 2019, there were three STEPs: STEP 1, STEP 2 and STEP 3. Since the academic year 2019/20, STEP 1 has been phased out. There was no STEP 1 set in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was later announced that from 2021, STEP 1 would no longer be set, with only STEP 2 and STEP 3 being available. [5]
