Beirne Stadium is a stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island. [1] It is the home stadium for the Bryant University college football and men's and women's soccer and lacrosse programs. Beirne Stadium also hosts USL Championship club Rhode Island FC during their inaugural 2024 season. The stadium holds 4,400 people and was built in 1999.
Rhode Island Stingrays was an American soccer team based in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Founded in 1995, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid , until 2009, after which the franchise folded and the team left the league.
The stadium was expected to open by 2022, ready for the Rhode Island FC to begin play in the 2022 USL Championship season. [6] Construction over the development was hindered with problems regarding the site, as toxic materials due to industrial waste led to dangerous levels of toxins being found in the soil on the development site. [7]
Upon return to Rhode Island, the team lost to Detroit City FC 2-0, [35] but then started a streak of unbeaten games. In their away game against Memphis 901 FC they took an early 2-0 lead, and held on for a 2-2 tie after an 87th-minute Koke Vegas red card.
