The Muntinlupa Sunken Garden is in the central area of the Poblacion village at the eastern section of the 587-hectare (1,450-acre) prison reservation. [2] It is an open grassland delineated by large canopy trees that serve as a buffer between New Bilibid Prison and the communities in east Poblacion.
On January 22, 1941, the historic New Bilibid Prison, the national penitentiary, was established in the hills of Muntinlupa. During World War II, the New Bilibid Prison was used to lock up Filipino political prisoners by the Japanese occupation authorities, but they were set free by Hunters ROTC guerrillas. [5]

The total land area of the barangay is 6.131 m 2 (65.99 sq ft) of which 5.51 m 2 (59.3 sq ft) is part of the NBP Reservation. It has a population of 103,104 which makes this the most populated barangay in the City of Muntinlupa. It is located in the southern section of the city close to Metro Manila's border with Laguna.
