Haüyne or prismatic azure spar is a transparent or translucent mineral, similar to lazurite, in composition sodium and calcium aluminosilicate with the ideal formula (Na,Ca) 4-8 Al 6 Si 6 (O,S) 24 (SO 4,Cl) 1-2 having a blue or blue color, sometimes with a greenish tint, [5] was also known among the azure spars.
Lazurite and hauyne seem to have the same structure and both are sulfate-dominant minerals. [14] Lazurite is a pigment (opalescent) and has a bright blue streak (especially as a component of the semiprecious stone lapis lazuli). Many hauynes have a white or pale blue streak and are translucent.
It may be confused with lazurite, lapis lazuli or azurite. The type locality is in Freßnitzgraben in Krieglach, it's also found in Salzburg, Austria; Zermatt, Switzerland; Minas Gerais, Brazil; Lincoln County, Georgia; Inyo County, California; the Yukon in Canada; and elsewhere. It was first described in 1795 for deposits in Styria, Austria. [3]

Persian blue: made by grinding up the mineral Lapis lazuli. The most important mineral component of lapis lazuli is lazurite (25% to 40%), a feldspathoid silicate mineral with the formula (Na,Ca) 8 (AlSiO 4) 6 (S,SO 4,Cl) 1–2. Cobalt pigments. Cobalt blue (PB28): cobalt(II) aluminate. Cerulean blue (PB35): cobalt(II) stannate. Cerium uranium ...

The color azure ultimately takes its name from the vivid-blue gemstone lapis lazuli, a metamorphic rock. Lapis is the Latin word for "stone" and lāzulī is the genitive form of the Medieval Latin lāzulum , which is taken from the Arabic لازورد lāzaward [laːzwrd] ( listen ⓘ ), itself from the Persian لاژورد lāžaward , which ...
