Shelby is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 1,044 as of the 2010 census. The area is near Lay Lake and Waxahatchee Creek. Shelby Iron Park is located at the heart of the area. [3]

State Route 70 (SR 70) is an 8.290-mile-long (13.341 km) state highway entirely within southern Shelby County in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Alabama.The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 31 (US 31), just north of Calera.
Section 41 prohibited a move of the Shelby County seat from Columbiana unless a vote of the people was held, the only county in Alabama with such a designation. To further solidify Columbiana's claim to the county seat, in 1905 construction began two blocks north of the existing courthouse on a new marble courthouse at a cost of $300,000.
