Colposcopy is not generally performed for people with pap test results showing low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) or less. SILs are an abnormal growth of epithelial cells, known as a lesion, on the surface of the cervix. Unless the person has a visible lesion, colposcopy for this population does not detect a recurrence of cancer. [7]
Because of this, LSIL results can be managed with a simple "watch and wait" philosophy. However, because there is a 12–16% chance of progression to more severe dysplasia, the physician may want to follow the results more aggressively by performing a colposcopy with biopsy. [7] If the dysplasia progresses, treatment may be necessary.
Colonoscopy (/ ˌ k ɒ l ə ˈ n ɒ s k ə p i /) or coloscopy (/ k ə ˈ l ɒ s k ə p i /) [1] is a medical procedure involving the endoscopic examination of the large bowel (colon) and the distal portion of the small bowel.
One’s biological age, which measures the body’s physiological state, may help predict who is at risk for developing colon polyps, a known risk factor for colorectal cancer.
CMS reports Medicare covers virtual colonoscopy when a traditional colposcopy cannot be performed due to: an obstructing neoplasm. scarring, stricture, aberrant anatomy, or obstruction from prior ...
Interpretation [ edit ] These changes occur in the presence of human papillomavirus and occasionally can lead to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia , and if left untreated some may eventually progress to malignant cancer.
Endocervical curettage is a medical procedure used to extract cells of the endocervix to visualize under a microscope. Direct cervical visualization, colposcopy, and even endocervical colposcopy are not enough to fully analyze all areas of the endocervical epithelium and thus endocervical curettage is the method of choice in cases where this is necessary.
