Leaves are held on long fleshy yet stout petioles which emerge from the tip of the stem and radiate in all directions. Leaves are peltate and 3 or 5 lobed. Dense clusters of small, orange-red, flowers are held above the leaves on long slim peduncles. The clusters carry both male and female flowers and flowering continues for most of the year.
The flower stalk, which becomes thicker towards the top, has a diameter of 2 to 15 mm. The flowers are five, rarely sixfold and obdiplostemon. The tubular, barrel or bell-shaped, sometimes pentagonal corolla measures 5.5 to 17 mm × 3.5 to 10 mm at the base and 4.5 to 17 mm in diameter at the top.
The hanging flowers sit on 0.7 to 1 centimeter long flower stalks. The green to greenish-red calyx tube is 0.4 to 0.8 millimeters long and ends in egg-shaped, pointed tips that are 6.5 to 9 millimeters long and 2.4 to 3.5 millimeters wide. The corolla is urn-shaped, red-orange to bright red.
Kalanchoe pinnata, commonly known as cathedral bells, air plant, life plant, miracle leaf, [2] Goethe plant, [3] and love bush, [4] is a succulent plant native to Madagascar. It is a popular houseplant and has become naturalized in tropical and subtropical areas.
The flowers are 2.5–3 cm diameter with five petals, variably red, orange, pink, white, and yellow. [2] Their upright, or ascending, long shoots branch usually near the base. The spreading 20-to-25-millimeters-long and 2-to-3-millimeters-wide leaves are almost or completely stalk-shaped, and taper towards the tip.
This variable species grows as a small shrub, with short, low stems that produce roots down towards the ground, and slender, erect, succulent, grey-green leaves. The flowers appear throughout the summer, on a 30 cm erect inflorescence. The flowers can be orange, yellow or white.
