Memento Mori (stylised on cover as Memento| Mori) is the fifteenth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 24 March 2023 [2] through Columbia. [3] [4] The album was produced by James Ford, and marks their first album in six years since 2017's Spirit, the longest period of time between albums in the band's history.
On 21 September 2023, an official music video was released for the song directed by Anton Corbijn. [6] Shot entirely in black and white, the video shows a man wandering through the forest and the streets of a city. Upon arriving to his dwelling, the person turns out to be a woman once the hat and fake mustache are removed. [7]
[2] [3] Focusing on themes of mortality and salvation, and filmed in black and white, the video shows a gloomy figure in an overcoat who slowly walks into a dangerous sea, and, in the end, the elements consume him. Initially, the track 11 "Memento Mori" appeared to be misspelled on the album's iTunes pre-order page as "Momento Mori".
