Due to the increasing number of students and enhanced aviation technology a new headquarters of the college was established in the city of Al Ain in 1995. The new headquarters was opened in 1996 and the college was renamed to Khalifa bin Zayed Air College pertaining to its leader, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan , then crown prince of Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi University's Al Ain branch was inaugurated in September 2003 simultaneously with the establishment of its main campus in Abu Dhabi. The 763rd Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron is a provisional United States Air Force unit. It was last known to be assigned to the 363rd Expeditionary Operations Group at Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates. The 363rd Group was inactivated on 25 August 2003. The squadron's current status is undetermined.
The university's inception can be traced to the Charter of Abu Dhabi University in the year 2000 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nayhan, the-then Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. Following three years of planning, the Abu Dhabi University was inaugurated in June 2003 [ 8 ] [ 9 ] and opened its doors to students in September 2003.
