Lloyd Groff Copeman (December 28, 1881 – July 5, 1956) [1] was an American inventor who devised the first electric stove and the flexible rubber ice cube tray, among other products. He had nearly 700 patents to his name, and he claimed that he could walk into any store and find one of his inventions.
In 1887, the Favorite Stove & Range Company moved to Piqua, Ohio, from Cincinnati, Ohio. The firm became Piqua's largest manufacturer. The company focused primarily on the manufacture of stoves and stove parts throughout its history, though it also produced several lines of mid-priced cast-iron pans from the 1910s through the 1930s.
Both stoves were used in all of his following expeditions. Additional product lines were developed and produced including refrigerators , gas and electric water heaters . New porcelain , enamel , and chrome departments were added as the company grew.
The company was purchased by Frank Gibson, a competing manufacturer of "ice refrigerators" in the early 1900s. It was the largest in its industry at the time. In 1931, the company began making electric refrigerators. [1] During the Second World War, Gibson manufactured 1,078 Waco CG-4 troop and cargo assault gliders under license.
