The Cathedral of the Incarnation, located at 2015 West End Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee, is the cathedral seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville.It is named after the mystery of the Incarnation, which celebrates the miraculous conception of Jesus in the womb of the Virgin Mary, by which God became man according to Christian teaching.
Mary replaced the diocese's first church, Holy Rosary, which had been erected previously on the site today occupied by the Tennessee State Capitol. [ 4 ] The church was designed by Adolphus Heiman (1809–1862), who also designed a number of other notable Nashville buildings, including the State Asylum and the Italianate-style Belmont Mansion.
The Diocese of Nashville encompasses 38 counties spread over 16,302 square miles of Middle Tennessee. Its Catholic population has been estimated at 76,000, which represents about 3.4% of the total population in the diocese. As of 2016, Mass was offered in Spanish, Vietnamese, Latin, and Korean.
