Vickers was a pioneer in producing airliners, early examples being converted from Vimy bombers. Vickers brand aircraft were produced from 1911 to 1965, when BAC ended the name. The company was historically the Naval Construction Works of Vickers Armstrongs and has a heritage of building large naval warships and armaments.
