The Columbus Developmental Center (CDC) is a state-supported residential school for people with developmental disabilities, located in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. The school, founded in 1857, was the third of these programs developed by a U.S. state, after Massachusetts in 1848 and New York in 1851. [1]
The hospital replaced St. Francis Hospital, also known as Starling Medical College. The hospital was designed by R. A. Sheldon of New York, with assistance from George Bellows Sr. [ 3 ] Grant Medical Center operated a 16-story building, Baldwin Tower, from 1968 to its demolition in 2004.
Columbus State Hospital, also known as Ohio State Hospital for Insane, was a public psychiatric hospital in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1838 and rebuilt in 1877. [1] The hospital was constructed under the Kirkbride Plan. [2] The building was said to have been the largest in the U.S. or the world, until the Pentagon was completed in 1943. [3] [4]
Continental Center is a 26-story, 348 ft (106 m) skyscraper in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It is the 14th tallest building in Columbus. It was completed in 1973 and designed by architectural firm Brubaker/Brandt. The building follows a modernist architectural style and has been known as the Ohio Bell Building and the Ameritech Building.
The building was built as Columbus Public Schools' Reeb Avenue Elementary School, and was listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 2013. It was designed in the Neoclassical style by David Riebel, and was built from 1905 to 1907. [2] The building is now owned by the City of Columbus.
