Lake Allegan is a man-made lake located in Valley Township just outside the city of Allegan in the U.S. state of Michigan (Allegan County). The water is safe for swimming and boating. [1] The lake has a large surface area of almost 1,600 acres (2.5 mi 2, 6.475 km 2).
The reservoir was constructed, originally, as a water supply for Flint, and to move the river through the city more quickly to dilute sewage. [4] By 1967, though, the city purchased its drinking water from the City of Detroit, via a pipeline from Lake Huron, and only used the reservoir as an emergency back-up water supply.
Coldwater Lake in Branch County, Michigan is a recreational lake surrounded by homes on the majority of its sides, and is located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north of the southern border of Michigan and 5 miles (8.0 km) South of Coldwater, Michigan. The Lake feeds Coldwater River which runs north into the city of Coldwater.
