Welcome to Allamuchy! Originating from a Quaker settlement, Allamuchy Township was formally established on April 4, 1873. Nestled in beautiful Warren County, Allamuchy derives its name from the Lenni Lenape Chief Allamuchahokkingen, meaning “place within the hills.”.
Tax Collector. Property taxes are generally raised by three different entities: the municipal government, the county government, and the public school system. The local tax collector is responsible for collecting these taxes.

Allamuchy Township is governed by The Faulkner Act, a small municipality form of government. The governing body consists of a part-time Mayor and four part-time Council Members.
Allamuchy's Rich History. The area that is Allamuchy Township was formed by the movement of glaciers following the Ice Age. The area's earliest known inhabitants were the Lenni Lenape tribe. The earliest non-native settlers in the area were the Quakers, who arrived in the 1700's.

The Allamuchy Historical Society was incorporated as a non-profit entity in 1948. The original purpose of the group was to maintain the old Quaker Burial Grounds located on Johnsonburg Road. Over the years, the mission of the group has expanded into collecting and maintaining historical information within Allamuchy Township.
