Pearis built a grist mill, sawmill, a home, a store stocked with Indian goods, smokehouse, stables, and blacksmith shop and slave quarters. After being owned by some other families, the property was sold to Vardry McBee in 1815. He began the development of the town of Pleasantburg, which in 1831 changed its name to Greenville. 36
