DeSoto County Schools is a public school district based in Hernando, Mississippi and serving all public school students in DeSoto County in the Memphis metropolitan area. With an enrollment of more than 30,000 students, DeSoto County is the largest school district in the state of Mississippi.

Semple Broaddus College, also known as the University of DeSoto, [1] a Baptist college, was located in Centre Hill. [2] In the January 1, 1857, issue of The Memphis Daily Appeal , there is an announcement from the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Robert Wilson, that the first classes of the college were to be held on February 21, 1857. Southaven is a city in DeSoto County, Mississippi, United States. It is a principal city in Greater Memphis . The 2020 census reported a population of 54,648, [ 5 ] making it the 3rd most populous city in Mississippi and the largest suburb of Memphis by population.
The largest of these, Oktibbeha County Training School, was opened in 1926 at a cost of $127,000. Other schools included a three-teacher school in Longview, Maben Colored School with two teachers; Pleasant Grove, which had four teachers; True Vine school (3 teachers), and Rock Hill School, which also had four teachers. There were a total of 3,451 students enrolled in the West Point School District during the 2007–2008 school year. The gender makeup of the district was 50% female and 50% male. The racial makeup of the district was 79.83% African American, 19.33% White, 0.64% Hispanic, 0.17% Asian, and 0.03% Native American.
Previous schools: Duck Hill High School - Duck Hill [11] Duck Hill Elementary School - Duck Hill [12] Circa 2001 it had around 100 students. At that time school district officials were considering closing it and moving the students to Kilmichael Elementary. [10] Duck Hill residents stated opposition to the closure proposals. [13]
