The Grand View Lodge is a resort on Gull Lake in Nisswa, Minnesota, United States.Established in 1916, it has grown to include seven restaurants, a spa, two golf courses, a conference center, and over 200 guest cabins. [2]
The resort was purchased from the Aldens in 1941 by Ray and Nancy LaMontagne, who actively owned and managed the historic resort for 42 years. 82–83 years later it continues in the LaMontagne family. As of 2019, Burntside Lodge is operated by Ray and Nancy's son Lou, his wife Lonnie, and their adult children Nicole and Jacques. [3]

There are three seasonal resorts on the lake - Woodlawn Resort, [7] Madsen's Resort, [8] and Holiday Haven Resort & Campground. [9] In a 2000 lake survey 133 seasonal cabins and year-round homes on the north shore of the lake were counted. [2] The south shore, which is part of Glendalough State Park, has never been developed.
The name would not last. The Zeglin family sold the resort in 1939 to Frank Dvorak. [6] Frank "Shorty" Dvorak bought land on the island in 1939, soon adding a dance hall, a restaurant, and more cabins. The island became a weekend dinner and dancing spot, rather than a resort. Dvorak sold the complex to the Day Camp Company in 1959.
In 1930 he built a log cabin, measuring 16 by 20 feet (5 by 6 m), behind the inn overlooking the Cross River. After he completed a second cabin, a Minnesota tourism pamphlet described the site as "Stickney's Resort". By 1936, Stickney had built eight cabins with views of the river and the shores of Lake Superior. [2]
