Following an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjiro is sent to train with Giyu's former instructor Sakonji Urokodaki in becoming a Demon Slayer and begins his quest to help Nezuko turn into a human again. Two years later, Tanjiro learns the "Water Breathing" style and takes part in a formidable exam.
It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. The series' first season premiered in April 2019, having aired on Tokyo MX and other networks, while from the second season onwards it has aired on Fuji TV.

Tanjiro takes Kyogai's blood with a vial and gives it to Tamayo's cat. Taking the siblings outside, he finds Zenitsu, who was thrown outside the mansion earlier, being kicked by the rogue Demon Slayer for protecting Nezuko. He reveals he had known all along Tanjiro had been carrying a demon but chose to believe he had a good reason.

Tatsuhiko Katayama, their editor, was worried about the one-shot crusade being too dark for the young demographic and asked Gotouge if they could write another type of the main character who would be "brighter".
