The 2024 Baseball5 World Cup was the second edition of the Baseball5 World Cup, the mixed-gender Baseball5 (B5) world championship organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). It was held in Hong Kong from 7 to 12 October 2024.
The Baseball5 World Cup (B5WC, and sometimes referred to as the Senior Baseball5 World Cup) [1] is a mixed-gender Baseball5 (B5) world championship that occurs every two years, with the first edition held in 2022 in Mexico and contested by 12 countries.
It is governed by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). The 2025 edition will act as a qualifier for the mixed-gender Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics Baseball5 event, which will be Baseball5's first appearance at the Youth Olympics , as well as the first appearance of a mixed-gender team sport at an Olympic event.
South Africa won the 2022 Baseball5 African Championship held in Dar es Salaam, finishing the tournament with a perfect 7–0 record and defeating Kenya in the final, 2 games to 0, winning the gold medal.
Trials were held in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland to determine the squad that would play in the World Cup. [5] Australia debuted with two defeats on the first day of the tournament against Mexico and Japan. The team finished last in Group B in the Opening Round, losing their remaining games against China, Tunisia and France.
The inaugural edition of the Baseball5 Asia Cup was due to be held in 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] The first championship was held in August 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was won by Chinese Taipei, after beating Japan in the final 2 matches to 1.
