Commissioned at an original cost of $35,000, the Muckenthaler home was built by Walter and Adella Muckenthaler in 1925 atop a hill in Fullerton. The 18-room mansion on 8.5 acres was donated to the city in 1965 by Harold Muckenthaler, who wished to see his childhood home used as a cultural center.
The center opened in July 2011 and is in Orange County, California. [1] The Cooper Center was named to commemorate Dr. John D. Cooper, professor emeritus of geological science at Cal State Fullerton, who campaigned for the conservation of the Orange County Collection, and died in 2007. [2] [3]

Kelly Thomas (April 5, 1974 – July 10, 2011) was a homeless man diagnosed with schizophrenia who lived on the streets of Fullerton, California.He died five days after being severely beaten by six members of the Fullerton Police Department, whom he encountered on July 5, 2011, [2] in what was later described as "one of the worst police beatings in [US] history."
