Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) was built in 1983 [1] in response to the growing airport traffic needs that Amman Civil Airport could not accommodate. At the time, passenger traffic was increasing at a rate above the international average, recording 25–30% growth per annum and placing considerable pressure on airport facilities despite continuous expansion and development.

It was the main airport for Jordan until Queen Alia International Airport was opened in 1983. In 2009, Jordan Airports Company officially assumed managerial and operational responsibility for Amman Civil Airport. The airline shifted its operation to the King Hussein International Airport, the firm launched its inaugural flight from there in 2004. Between 2005 and 2007, Jordan Aviation operated scheduled charter flights from King Hussein International Airport to regional destinations including Kuwait City , Doha , Alexandria , Dubai , Cairo and Manama .
