Siva Umapathy (born 10 June 1959) is a retired Professor of the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry and also at the department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics at the Indian Institute of Science. He was the Director (September 2018 to August 2023) of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal (IISER). [1]

It was founded in 1952 as the Institute of Instrumentation of the CAS, by a group of scientists led by Wang Daheng. It was later renamed as the Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics. The current name was adopted in 1999 when the institute was merged with the Changchun Institute of Physics, headed by Xu Xurong. [1]
